The Murder

One DM framed my Barbarian named TED for murder. He was walking around town minding his own business when cries for help were heard. Following the sound there was a mugger accosting an old lady, so naturally TED approached and the mugger ran away. The old lady thanked him and offered him money, which he first refused then accepted, and at the urging of another character he was with, he gave the money to a guard. The guard kept the money and upon opening the sack to count it, released a deadly poison that killed half a barracks.

TED was attacked with a poison dart later, but passed the fort save so it didn’t kill him, but he was hobbled. While being healed, he was arrested for conspiring to kill the town guards and the rest of the party had to go hire a high priced lawyer from the neighboring kingdom (where the group was operating out of) to fight the charges.

TED sat in jail with his companion while we role-played using the groups connections with a large thieves guild to gather evidence, coach TED (who wasn’t so good with common) on shutting up when in court, and chasing down the culprits of the assassination attempts. It was one of the defining moments of why TED no longer will enter and kind of city, he has been arrested every time he enters some place with a population greater than his party.
